During my time with the Pete Allen Jazz Band through the 1980's, I got to know Nat Gonella very well. He was always a source of encouragement to me. Here he is with L-R, Chris Hodgkins, Pete Allen, Bernie Allen, Me, Len Thwaites and Graham Scriven.

I got to play with Al Grey (from the Count Basie Orchestra) on a delightful summers evening in the late 80's at the True Heart, an old coaching inn in the small village of Bishopstone, near Swindon. He played a storm and gave me some great encouragement. He signed this photo for me. Little did I know I'd be playing his part in the Back To Basie Orchestra some 15 years later!

During my time with the Rod Mason Hot Five in Germany in the early 90's, Clarinettist Paul Harrison and yours truly went for a quiet pint(?) and were led astray by some American tourists at the famous Hofbrauhaus during the Oktoberfest in Munich.
